How To Change Folder Arrangement In Windows 10 and Pin Folders In Certain Locations
If you are very organized (or OCD) it is likely that you try to keep your folders organized as much as possible. Windows is nice in the fact that it automatically arranges your folders to be in alphabetical order. While this feature has its benefits it can be somewhat annoying to deal with if you want to always have a folder at the bottom or at the top. While there are ways to make Windows stop alphabetically arranging ALL files this is generally considered a bad practice and, unfortunately, there is no way to force only one folder to be immune to this feature.
The Solution
Since Windows 10 will always sort folders alphabetically the workaround to arranging folders how you like is to work with that feature. Basically, you need to use symbols to pin folders to where you want them. An example of this solution in action is shown in an image below. There are many symbols that come after the English alphabet and many symbols that come before. Using this trick will ensure that your folders always appear where you want them to. Whether you need to pin a folder to the top or bottom of the list this trick will work both ways!
Some Characters You Can Use
There are many characters you can use to pin folders to the top. Most any symbol on your keyboard will suffice. Pinning folders to the bottom requires a bit more research. To pin folders to the end or at the bottom of your list you will need to use characters that are ordered after the Windows alphabet. To type these symbols you will need to use either the alt code or Unicode depending on what is specified. Links to tutorials on how to use these are below. There are many resources for alt and Unicode characters online. Some symbols you can use and their order are:
SYMBOL NAME | SYMBOL | Code | Order |
Check mark | ✓ | Alt 2713? | Top |
Small arrow | › | Alt 0155/8250 | Top |
Alpha | α | Alt 224 | Top |
ARABIC HEH ISO | ﻩ | U+FEE9 | Bottom |
Capital Omega | Ω | Alt 234 | Bottom |
Kazakh | ٴ | U+0674 | Bottom |
